Sulfur Cube mob in Minecraft
The Sulfur Cube is a passive, bouncing cube that lives in the Sulfur Caves. Its trick is that it can absorb a block, and the block it holds changes what kind of cube it is. It eats slimeballs, drops nothing but the block it holds, and can be carried home in a bucket.

Command
/summon minecraft:sulfur_cube ~ ~ ~Where to find a Sulfur Cube
Sulfur Cubes spawn only in the Sulfur Caves. They are passive: they bounce around and never attack you. They come in a small and a large form, a bit like the hostile Slime, which shares the same caves.
Blocks it can absorb
A Sulfur Cube can take a block inside itself. The game keeps a fixed list of blocks it accepts and sorts them into a dozen families. Their internal names hint at the result:
- Bouncy: planks, logs and bamboo blocks.
- Light: wool. Sticky: the Honeycomb Block.
- Sliding: Blue Ice, packed ice and snow blocks, or mushroom blocks for a slower slide.
- Flat: metal blocks and ores for a slow one, coral, sponge, moss, melons or pumpkins for a fast one.
- High resistance: Soul Sand and soul soil.
- Hot: the Magma Block. Explosive: TNT.
- Regular and slow bouncy: dirt, mud, clay, then most stone, brick, deepslate and terracotta blocks.
The block can be removed again later. Some combinations are not harmless: a cube holding a Magma Block can kill, as its death messages show, and having one absorb TNT unlocks the advancement “Uh Oh”, so keep it away from your base.
Feeding and carrying it
Its food is the Slimeball. A small Sulfur Cube that eats one puts on mass. You can also scoop a Sulfur Cube into a bucket, which gives a Bucket of Sulfur Cube, the easy way to bring one back from the caves.
Good to know
- When it dies, it drops only the block it had absorbed, if it holds one.
- A Pufferfish does not puff up near it.
- Like the Slime and the Magma Cube, it can ride another mob without steering it.
- It cannot be pushed into a boat.
