Iron Axe item in Minecraft
The Iron Axe is an axe: the tool that cuts wood fastest, and a heavy weapon that hits harder than a sword of the same material but swings slower. Made from iron ingots, it lasts 250 uses, hits for 9 damage and swings slightly faster than the stone and copper axes.
It is made with the Crafting Table from 2 × Stick and 3 × Iron Ingot.
What it does
An axe breaks logs, planks, chests, crafting tables and every other wooden block much faster than by hand. Used on a log or a block of wood, it strips the bark and gives the stripped version; used on copper, it scrapes off one stage of oxidation or removes the wax.
In combat, an axe deals a lot of damage per hit but needs time to recharge between swings. Hitting a player or mob that is raising a Shield disables the shield for a few seconds, which is the standard way to break through a defensive opponent.
Axes take mining enchantments such as Efficiency, Fortune and Silk Touch, and damage enchantments such as Sharpness. Every block broken or hit landed wears it down, and an anvil or a crafting grid can combine two damaged axes into one.
