The End biome in Minecraft
The End biome is the central island of the End dimension, where the Ender Dragon waits. It is a bare plain of End Stone ringed by obsidian pillars, floating in the void. Beat the dragon here to open the exit portal and the gateways that lead to the outer islands.

You arrive on a small Obsidian platform 100 blocks from the center of the island, often with the void around it, so bring blocks to bridge over to the End Stone. The platform is rebuilt each time someone arrives. Ten tall Obsidian pillars ring the center. Each one carries an End Crystal that heals the dragon, and some crystals sit inside cages of Iron Bars. Destroy them with arrows or climb up to them before you focus on the Ender Dragon.
The Enderman is the only mob that spawns here, and there are plenty of them. Avoid looking at their heads during the fight.
After the dragon
When the dragon dies, the exit portal in the middle of the island lights up and takes you back to your spawn point. The first kill leaves a Dragon Egg on top of it. Each kill also opens a new End Gateway in a ring around the island. Throw an Ender Pearl into it and you land on the outer islands, about a thousand blocks away, in the End Highlands and their neighbors, where End Cities hide.
Survival tips
- Beds explode here and respawn anchors don't work, so you cannot set a spawn point in the End.
- Falling into the void kills you and your items are lost with you. Bridge carefully and sneak near edges.
- The dragon's breath leaves lingering purple clouds: stay out of them, or collect them in glass bottles for lingering potions.

The End — FAQ
How do you get back to the Overworld from the End?
Jump into the exit portal in the middle of the central island once the dragon is dead. Before that, the portal is inactive and the only way out is to die.
Can you fight the Ender Dragon again?
Yes. Place four End Crystals on the edges of the exit portal, one on each side, and the dragon respawns along with the crystals on the pillars.
