Headline features

The changes you will notice first, with the pages that go deeper.

Mob

Dolphins, turtles and tropical fish

Dolphins are neutral and lead you to treasure if you feed them fish. Turtles lay eggs on beaches, and baby turtles drop Turtle Scutes when they grow up.

Mob

Drowned and Phantom

The Drowned live in oceans and rivers, and Zombies that stay underwater too long turn into them. Phantoms swoop at players who skip sleep and drop Phantom Membrane, which repairs Elytra.

Items

Trident and Conduit

The Trident is a melee and ranged weapon. A Heart of the Sea from buried treasure and 8 Nautilus Shells craft the Conduit, which makes life underwater easier.

Blocks

Coral and ocean blocks

Coral, Coral Blocks and Coral Fans grow in reefs with Kelp, Seagrass and Sea Pickles. Blue Ice comes from icebergs, and Magma Blocks or Soul Sand create Bubble Columns.

Minecraft 1.13 FAQ

When was Minecraft 1.13 released?

On 18 July 2018, for Java Edition. Two bug-fix releases followed: 1.13.1 on 22 August 2018 and 1.13.2 on 22 October 2018.

How do you get a Trident in 1.13?

Defeat the Drowned, the hostile mob of oceans and rivers. Tridents drop from them, and some Drowned spawn holding one.

What is the Phantom?

A hostile flying mob that the community voted into the game in 2017. It attacks players who have not slept, and its Phantom Membrane repairs Elytra and brews the Potion of Slow Falling.

Can I play my 1.12 worlds and mods in 1.13?

Worlds, yes: the Optimize World button upgrades a whole older world at once, so back it up first. Mods, no: a mod only loads on the version it was built for, so 1.12 mods need a 1.13 build.
