Grow an oak tree here
/place feature minecraft:oakGenerates an oak tree at your position, if there is room for it.

/place generates world content on demand: a feature such as a tree, a complete structure such as a village, a jigsaw assembly from a template pool, or a saved structure template. It uses the same generators as the world itself.

Since 26.3 it also accepts an inline definition.structure: a full structure, such as minecraft:village_plains for a Village, with the same IDs as /locate.jigsaw: starts from a template pool and a jigsaw name, then expands up to max_depth levels, from 1 to 20.template: one saved template, such as minecraft:igloo/top or a file made with a Structure Block.rotation is none, clockwise_90, 180 or counterclockwise_90; mirror is none, front_back or left_right. integrity, from 0 to 1, is the share of blocks placed, ideal for ruins, and seed makes that pattern repeatable.
A feature or a structure only generates where its own rules allow it; otherwise the game answers "Failed to place feature" or "Failed to place structure". Try another spot. The Ancient City example below uses the same pool, jigsaw name and depth as the structure file of the game. To copy your own builds, /clone is often quicker.

Not always. Each structure has its own placement rules, and when they fail the game answers that it failed to place the structure. Move and try again.
They are the structure files of the game, such as minecraft:igloo/top, or the ones you save with a structure block or ship in a data pack.
Type it in the chat with cheats on: /place feature <feature> [<pos>].

It is in the official command tree since Java Edition 1.19.
