Blindness effect in Minecraft

Blindness wraps you in thick darkness that leaves only a few blocks visible, and it stops you from sprinting or landing critical hits. In Survival, it comes from Suspicious Stew made with an Azure Bluet or an Open Eyeblossom.

Where Blindness comes from

No naturally spawning mob inflicts it. You get it from Suspicious Stew: the stew made with an Azure Bluet or an Open Eyeblossom always gives Blindness. Stews found in Shipwrecks and in the ice boxes of Ancient Cities, or sold by farmer villagers, carry one effect picked from a short list that includes Blindness, so eating an unknown stew is a gamble.

What it does in a fight

Beyond the fog, Blindness blocks sprinting and critical hits, the jumping hits that deal extra damage. Your melee damage drops, you cannot run away and you cannot see mobs coming. If it hits you in a cave or at night, stop moving, put your back to a wall and wait.

How to get rid of it

A Milk Bucket clears it at once. The better fix is prevention: craft stews yourself and you know what you get. An Oxeye Daisy gives Regeneration and a Dandelion gives Saturation, both far more useful. Do not mix Blindness up with Darkness from the Deep Dark, which pulses in and out instead of staying constant.
