The command places the raw game template: 10 jigsaw block(s) stay where the plan shows Dirt Path, nothing (air). Break them and put what the plan shows in their place.

In a generated village, each Cobblestone block has a 20% chance of becoming Mossy Cobblestone. The plan and the command give the clean version.

Step by step

  1. Layer 1, the square. Lay a 5 by 5 square of Cobblestone and surround it with a two-block ring of Dirt Path. Each Dirt Path is a Dirt or Grass Block flattened with a shovel.
  2. Layer 2, the basin. Build a Cobblestone ring on the edge of the square, with a Torch on each corner, and a single Cobblestone block in the middle.
  3. Layer 3, the column and the bell. Add a second Cobblestone block on the middle one and put the Bell on the north side of the rim.
  4. Layer 4, the water. Pour one Water Bucket on top of the column: the water runs down its four sides and fills the basin.

Tips

Only one Water source is needed: everything else in the basin is flowing water. Villagers gather around a Bell, and ringing it during a raid sends them indoors. In a generated village, some Cobblestone turns into Mossy Cobblestone at random: mix a few in for the lived-in look. See also the village structure page and the plains biome.

How do you place the Plains Village Well with a command?

Type /place template minecraft:village/plains/town_centers/plains_fountain_01 ~ ~ ~ in a world with cheats on. The build appears with its north-west bottom corner at your position.
