Minecraft 1.21.9 “The Copper Age”

Released on 30 September 2025, Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.9 is The Copper Age, the third game drop of 2025. It adds the Copper Golem, which sorts items into chests, copper tools and armour, the Copper Chest, copper torches, lanterns, bars and chains, and Shelves in 12 wood types. The End now has a flashing skylight.

It takes up to 16 items from a Copper Chest and places them in Chests or Trapped Chests that are empty or hold the same item, visiting up to 10 chests per run. Unless waxed, a fully oxidised golem turns into a Copper Golem Statue with four poses.

Axe, Hoe, Pickaxe, Shovel and Sword deal the same damage as Stone but last longer. The armour is more durable than Leather and Gold, and Copper Horse Armor has the same loot chances as Iron Horse Armor.

AccessibilityAttack/Destroy and Use Item/Place Block can be set to Hold or Toggle, with new Invert Mouse X and Sprint Window options.
PerformanceFixed spawn chunks are gone: chunks for forceloading, portals, Ender Pearls and the player's area load before joining, with a progress bar.
ServersThe allow-nether, spawn-monsters, enable-command-block and pvp server properties became game rules, and servers can require players to accept a code of conduct.
ServersNew Minecraft Server Management Protocol: a JSON-RPC 2.0 API over WebSocket, off by default, to manage players, the allowlist, operators and game rules.
