Iron Sword item in Minecraft
The Iron Sword is a sword, the standard melee weapon: quicker than an axe, with a sweeping attack that hits several mobs at once. Made from iron ingots, it deals 6 damage and lasts 250 hits, the reliable weapon of the mid game.
It is made with the Crafting Table from Stick and 2 × Iron Ingot.
What it does
A sword recharges fast between hits, so steady, well-timed swings deal the most damage over time. A fully charged hit while standing still or walking sweeps through the mobs next to your target too; a hit while falling is a critical hit.
Swords also cut Cobwebs quickly, getting String from them, and break bamboo instantly. They take their own enchantments: Sharpness, Smite against undead, Bane of Arthropods against spiders, Looting for more drops, Fire Aspect, Knockback and Sweeping Edge.
Each hit wears the sword down by one point, and breaking blocks with it costs two. A worn sword can be repaired with its material on an anvil or combined with another one.
