Paper is made from Sugar Cane: three canes in a row give three sheets. It is the material of books, maps and firework rockets, and novice librarians and cartographers pay emeralds for it.
It is made with the Crafting Table from 3 × Sugar Cane.
What it does
Three paper and a leather make a Book, the base of bookshelves, enchanted books and the book and quill. Eight paper around a compass make an empty map, and adding paper to a map on a Cartography Table zooms it out to cover a larger area. The cartography table itself needs two paper on top of planks.
A Firework Rocket is a sheet of paper with gunpowder, and it is what boosts you when you fly with elytra. Paper combined with a creeper head, an oxeye daisy, a wither skeleton skull, bricks or vines gives one of the banner patterns used on the loom.
A sugar cane farm by the water is enough for a steady supply. Selling 24 paper to a novice Librarian or Cartographer for an emerald is one of the easiest trades of the game.
