The /seed command prints the seed of the world you are playing in. The seed is the number that drives terrain generation: with it you can recreate the same world, share it with friends or load it in a seed map to plan where to explore.

/execute in minecraft:the_end run seedReturns the same number as in the Overworld: the seed belongs to the world, not to a dimension.
Fill in the fields, then copy the command.
Command generatorThe answer is "Seed: [number]", and clicking the number copies it to the clipboard. A seed is a 64-bit number, positive or negative. If a world was created from a word or a sentence, that text was turned into a number, so /seed always shows digits.
Two worlds with the same seed, the same game version and the same world settings get the same terrain, biomes and structures. What players built or mined is not part of the seed. Between versions, changes to world generation can move biomes and structures for the same seed.
When you create a world, paste the number in the World tab, in the field Seed for the world generator. Leave it blank for a random seed. On a dedicated server, the seed of a new world comes from level-seed in server.properties; once the world exists, changing that line has no effect.
The seed is the same in every dimension, because it belongs to the whole world. You do not need an outside tool to find things: /locate searches structures and biomes directly in your world. Keep in mind that commands like /fillbiome change a world after generation, and those changes cannot be predicted from the seed.

Only if you have the permission level that /seed requires. Otherwise, ask the server owner or an operator for it.
Not always. World generation changes between versions can move biomes and structures, so use the same game version for an identical world.
Type it in the chat: /seed. In single player it works even with cheats off; on a server it needs operator level 2.
