Wave at everyone
/me waves at everyoneChat shows an asterisk, your name and the action.

/me posts an action in the third person, like * Alex waves at everyone. It is a roleplay tool: everyone who reads the chat sees it, and any player can use it without cheats or operator rights.
/me <action>| Argument | Expects | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| action | Message | What you do, written without your name and starting with a verb, such as waves at everyone. |
/me waves at everyoneChat shows an asterisk, your name and the action.
/me is away for a few minutesA quick status line that every player can read.
/execute as @e[type=minecraft:villager,limit=1,sort=nearest] run me looks at youThe nearest villager appears as the author of the action.
Fill in the fields, then copy the command.
Command generatorThe game writes an asterisk, your name, then the text: /me waves at everyone becomes * Alex waves at everyone. Write the action without your name and start with a verb. Keep it short: one action per line reads better in a busy chat. The line goes to every player, so it is not private: for that, use /msg.
Combined with /execute, /me can make a mob act: execute as @e[type=minecraft:villager,limit=1,sort=nearest] run me looks at you shows the Villager as the sender. It is a light way to add flavor to adventure maps without /tellraw. A Command Block running /me shows * @ before the text.
/me has permission level 0, so it works in survival on any world. The text stays plain, with no color, and chat input stops at 256 characters. For an announcement with your name in square brackets, operators use /say.

No. Every player who reads the chat sees it. Use /msg to talk to one player only.
That is the action format of the game: an asterisk, the sender name, then your text. It tells readers the line describes an action, not speech.
Type it in the chat, no cheats needed: /me <action>.
Every player.
