Iron Chain block in Minecraft
The Iron Chain is a decorative block made from an iron ingot and two iron nuggets. It can stand upright, lie on its side in either direction, and it is what lanterns and hanging signs are meant to hang from.
It is made with the Crafting Table from Iron Ingot and 2 × Iron Nugget. It is mined with a pickaxe.
What it does
A chain takes the axis of the face you place it against: click the underside of a block to hang a vertical chain, or a wall to run it horizontally. Under a chain you can hang a Lantern or a soul lantern, which makes chains the usual way to drop lights from a high ceiling.
Chains are also an ingredient: two chains above six stripped logs make six hanging signs of that wood. They can be waterlogged, and they let light through while still giving a solid post look, popular for bridges, prisons and medieval details.
A pickaxe is needed to collect a chain. Iron chains also hang in bastion remnants and can be found in their chests, and a copper chain exists alongside them for a different color.
