Release Java Edition Major update

Minecraft 1.10 “Frostburn Update”

Released on 8 June 2016, Minecraft Java Edition 1.10, the Frostburn Update, adds three mobs: the Polar Bear, the Husk and the Stray. It also brings underground fossils, the Magma Block, Nether Wart Blocks, Red Nether Bricks, a working Structure Block and an auto-jump option. It runs on Java 8.

Released 08 Jun 2016

Key takeaways

  • New mobs: Polar Bears and Strays in snowy biomes, Husks in deserts.
  • Fossils: skulls and spines of giant creatures, made of Bone Blocks and sometimes Coal Ore, are buried underground.
  • Nether blocks: the Magma Block hurts anything standing on it, and Nether Wart Blocks and Red Nether Bricks are new building blocks.
  • Map making: the Structure Block saves and loads builds, and the Structure Void marks spaces that must stay untouched.
  • World generation: villages adapt to their biome, mineshafts with gold appear in Badlands (then called Mesa), and Endermen spawn in the Nether.
