Lingering Potion item in Minecraft

Present since 1.11 or earlier Stack size: 1 In 1 tutorial ↓

The Lingering Potion is a throwable potion that leaves a cloud of its effect on the ground instead of a single splash. Anyone who walks through the cloud gets the effect, but for a quarter of the normal duration.

What it does

You brew it by adding Dragon's Breath to a splash potion in a Brewing Stand. Dragon's breath is collected in glass bottles from the purple cloud of the Ender Dragon's attack, so lingering potions only become available once you reach the End.

The cloud stays for a while and slowly shrinks, especially each time it applies its effect to someone. It is ideal for area control: healing a group of allies, poisoning a doorway, or slowing a crowd of mobs.

Its other main use is in crafting: one lingering potion surrounded by eight arrows makes eight Tipped Arrows with that effect. In trial chambers, ominous spawners and dispensers can throw lingering potions at you.
