Lunge enchantment in Minecraft
Lunge propels you forward when you jab with a spear, further at each level, so you close the distance to a target in one move. Each lunge costs hunger and a point of durability, and it only triggers under certain conditions.

A jab with a Lunge spear pushes you forward along the ground, never upward. According to the game files, it does not trigger:
- while you ride a mob or sit in a vehicle, such as a horse;
- while you glide with elytra;
- while you are in water;
- when your food bar is at 6 points (three drumsticks) or less. Creative mode ignores this rule.
The cost
Every lunge drains your food bar through hunger exhaustion, and Lunge III costs three times as much as Lunge I. It also takes one point of durability on top of normal wear. Carry food, and give the spear Unbreaking and Mending.
How to use it
Lunge is a gap closer: rush a skeleton or a pillager before it shoots again, or catch a mob that backs away. Watch your footing: the push can carry you off a ledge or into lava.
Lunge has no exclusivity. The best spear enchantments build is Sharpness V, Lunge III, Looting III, Fire Aspect II, Unbreaking III and Mending.

Why doesn't Lunge work?
Check the conditions: no riding, no elytra gliding, not in water, and at least 7 food points (three and a half drumsticks). Below that, the jab does not lunge.
Does Lunge use durability?
Yes. Each lunge costs one point of durability, on top of the normal wear of the attack.
Does Lunge cost hunger?
Yes, and more at higher levels: Lunge III drains three times as much as Lunge I.
Can you get Lunge from an enchanting table?
Yes. Lunge can appear on the enchanting table for spear.
What is the max level of Lunge?
Lunge goes up to level III.
