Redstone basics in Minecraft: dust, repeater, comparator, observer
a Lever (Stick on Cobblestone), a Redstone Torch (Redstone Dust on a Stick) or a Block of Redstone.

A Lever is a switch that stays on or off until you flip it again.
It is made with the Crafting Table from Cobblestone and Stick.
A Stick on a cobblestone makes one. Place it on a floor, wall or ceiling and use it to toggle a constant redstone signal, which powers the block it is attached to as well. It is the simplest way to control doors, lamps and machines.
