Bedrock is the unbreakable block at the bottom of the world and on the roof of the Nether.
It cannot be broken in Survival.
What it does
No tool can break it in survival, and it resists every explosion. It also forms the frame of the End's exit portal. Above the Nether roof, a flat bedrock layer is famous as a quiet place to build fast rail lines.
