/rotate command in Minecraft

The /rotate command changes where an entity or a player looks without moving it. Set an exact angle, turn it relative to its current view, or make it face a point or another entity. It is handy for armor stands, cutscenes and mobs placed in a map.

Angles

Yaw 0 faces south, 90 west, 180 north and -90 east. Pitch 0 looks straight ahead, -90 straight up and 90 straight down. Relative values with ~ are added to the current view.

/rotate or /teleport

Before this command, turning an entity meant using /teleport to its own position with a rotation. /rotate only turns it and leaves its position alone. The target is a single entity: to turn many, run it through /execute as @e with rotate @s. The game confirms with "Rotated" and the name of the entity.

/rotate: FAQ

Does /rotate work on players?

Why does /rotate @e fail?

The target must be a single entity. Use /execute as @e[type=...] run rotate @s with the angles to turn several.

How do I use /rotate?

Type it in the chat with cheats on: /rotate <target> (facing|<rotation>).

Who can use /rotate?

Cheats on, or operator level 2.

Since when does /rotate exist?

It is in the official command tree since Java Edition 1.21.2.
