How to make and use maps in Minecraft
a map and a Glass Pane give a locked copy, marked Locked.

The Glass Pane is a thin sheet of glass: six glass blocks give sixteen panes, so you get more than twice the window area for the same sand. It connects to the blocks and panes next to it, like iron bars.
It is made with the Crafting Table from 6 × Glass.
A single pane is a thin post; place others beside it, or a solid block, and it stretches into a flat sheet that joins them. That makes it easy to fill window frames of any shape, and its slim profile looks better in small builds than full glass blocks.
Like glass, a pane breaks into nothing unless you mine it with Silk Touch. It can be waterlogged, and eight panes around a dye make eight stained panes.
An apprentice Cartographer buys glass panes, an easy trade if you produce glass in bulk.
6 × Glass → 16 × Glass Pane

At the Crafting Table: 6 × Glass give 16 × Glass Pane. Mined with Silk Touch, the block drops itself; without it, it drops nothing. Bought by Villager: Cartographer (Apprentice).
It is a thin window that joins neighboring panes and blocks, and takes a dye to become a stained pane. It is an ingredient in 16 recipes, made at the Crafting Table; for example Cyan Stained Glass Pane, Gray Stained Glass Pane, Green Stained Glass Pane, Light Blue Stained Glass Pane, Light Gray Stained Glass Pane and 8 more.
Placed under a Note Block, Glass Pane gives the Hi-hat sound.
