Redstone Wire block in Minecraft
Redstone Wire is what Redstone Dust becomes once placed on the ground: a flat trail that carries a redstone signal from a power source to the components it reaches. It is the basic cable of every circuit.
What it does
A signal enters the wire at strength 15 and loses one level for each block it travels, so a plain line dies out after fifteen blocks; a Redstone Repeater restores it to full strength. The wire glows brighter red the stronger the signal is.
Wire connects automatically to neighboring wire, to components such as repeaters, comparators, levers and lamps, and climbs up or down one block along the side of solid blocks. It powers the block it points into and the block underneath it, which then activates doors, pistons or lamps next to them.
Wire placed where it does not connect to anything forms a cross that powers all four sides; clicking it turns it into a dot that powers nothing around. Breaking the wire gives back the dust, and flowing water washes it away, so keep circuits dry.
