Command generatorThe answer looks like There are 3 of a max of 20 players online, followed by the names. The maximum comes from the server settings, so you see at a glance whether there is room for a friend. The command works everywhere: on a dedicated server, in a world opened to LAN and even in singleplayer, where it simply lists you. In the server console, type it without the slash.
/list uuids prints each name with its UUID in brackets. A name can change, a UUID never does, so it is the safer value to note before you edit server files by hand or look a profile up with /fetchprofile. Commands that expect a player, such as /teleport, also accept a UUID.
